UAB Sustainable Smart Cities Symposium
The University of Alabama at Birmingham will host a Sustainable Smart Cities Symposium on Thursday, February 16, 2012, from 8 am to 5 pm at the Doubletree Hotel, located in downtown Birmingham at at 808 Twentieth Street South. The free event will shine a spotlight on the innovative ideas of sustainability experts from around the globe in a multidisciplinary effort to make Birmingham a model of smart growth, healthy living, and sustainability.

UAB Provost Linda Lucas, Ph.D., and UAB School of Business Dean David Klock, Ph.D., will moderate a panel discussion to include the following keynote speakers:
- Cathy Crenshaw, President and CEO of Sloss Real Estate
- Oscar E. Diaz, Co-founder and President of Global Solutions Dynamic Plus (GSDPlus)
- Frank Franklin, MD, PhD, Professor Emeritus of the UAB School of Public Health
- Manuel Olivera, Regional Director of the C40 Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI)
- Enrique Peñalosa, Former Mayor of Bogotá, Colombia
- Carlo Ratti, Director of MIT SENSEable Labs, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
